I was really suprised when I saw this beautiful male Ring-Necked Pheasant i.e. Phasianus colchicus emerge from the brush to the edge of this grassy field in search of food. They are such elusive birds that I've only seen a few times in the wild in my entire life. Usually the case was that you would not see them and as soon as you got to close to where they were hidden they would suddenly let out a large cackle and take to the air as they flew like bats coming out of hell. This time I was lucky as I had my camera with telephoto lens by my side as earlier I was capturing both snow and Canadian geese in motion while bird watching along the Columbia River in Oregon.
